Sevilla, the heart of Andalucia. I loved everything about Sevilla. It's a big city (over 700,000 people), but has the historical charm of an old European city. I loved walking through the narrow, twisting streets and small squares.
Our first stop was the Cathedral, the world's largest Gothic cathedral and the third largest church in the world, standing on the sight of a 12th-century mosque. The organ pipesChristopher Columbus' TombA thorn from Christ's crown of thornsThe main chapel of the cathedral. The altarpiece is the largest in the world with over 1000 carved biblical figures. The Giralda (bell tower), part of the original mosque. We climbed to the top and had views of Sevilla and the bullring.Courtyard of the Oranges, originally the courtyard of the mosque, from the top of the Giralda.Plaza de Toros de la Real Maestranza (Death in the Afternoon) is the oldest bullring in SpainThe Plaza de EspaƱa in Maria Luisa Park was built in 1928 for the Ibero-American Exposition. The park was so pretty with paths snaking under trees, lush gardens and no car traffic. The architecture and tiling are beautiful.Jeff took us on a romantic boat ride on the canal around the plaza.
